“Greasy Lake” by T.C. Boyle takes place in the 1970’s and features a group of young men caught up in rebellion and testing of limits. The story is set in a scene of summer freedom. Tired of cruising the strip and visiting the usual clubs, the boys look for new thrills in their late night adventures. The central event takes place on one particular night during which the boys push the limits too far. A series of un-expected and nerve racking episodes leaves the boys wide-eyed and wanting to turn in their leather jackets and roach clips and return to college and civility. The only question is what horrific events could take place to straighten out a group of boys who are determined to set their own trend, defy authority and search for rebellion?
